Chunky No-Sew Penguin with Hat Crochet Pattern

Make an adorable chunky chenille penguin with a cozy ear-flap hat. The arms are crocheted directly into the body, making this a fun low-sew amigurumi project.

Starting the First Arm Stitch

  1. Insert the hook into stitch #1, hook the yarn and bring it through.
  2. Yarn over and bring it through the stitch on your hook.
  3. Insert the hook into #1 again and make the first stitch of Row 1 there.
  4. Continue the second stitch in #2 and the third stitch in #3.

Attach the feet with a hot glue gun. Trim and glue the loose yarn down on the side of each foot that will be glued to the bottom of the penguin.

How to Add the Mouth

Depending on the yarn you use, the finished size will vary, so the mouth may span about 1–3 stitches.

  1. Choose the two points where the mouth will begin and end.
  2. Insert the needle at one point and bring it out at the other.
  3. Repeat 2–3 times until you reach the thickness you like.
  4. Tie off the two loose yarn ends on one side, trim them, and use your hook to hide the loose yarn inside the body.

How to Attach the Eyes

The spacing will depend on your yarn and finished size. In the original project, the eyes were placed between Rows 9 and 10 with about 3–5 stitches between them.

  1. Place the eyes where you want them.
  2. Remove one eye and add a small amount of hot glue in that spot.
  3. Put the eye back in place, press, and secure.
